How Hitting Record is Helping Us Heal
Finding Our Own Support While Supporting You
Hi, I'm Daiana. Whether you’ve been listening since the beginning or you are just joining us for the first time, welcome.
Life is incredibly beautiful, but it is also filled with so much hardship and grief. Looking back at the conversations Cassandra and I shared during our first season, we realized just how much this platform has helped us cope with the curveballs life has thrown our way this year. It has grounded us and helped us show up better for the people in our lives. As we launch Season 2, our biggest hope is that this space does the exact same for you. We want you to feel supported and to walk away from these episodes with real tools to help you navigate your own grief.
In our first episode of the season, Cassandra Harris-Towner and I, Daiana Bernard, dive into the nuances of grief, particularly the quiet losses that often go unacknowledged. We reflect on the challenges of parenting, scheduling, and the unexpected changes that life throws our way.

Here is a look at what we are unpacking this week:
Cassandra shares her experience of preparing her daughter for high school, only to have everything change two days before school started. We talk about the concept of the "assumptive world", the life we confidently plan for ourselves that can dramatically shift without warning.
"Sometimes life just lifes and it just kind of does what it wants to do."
— Cassandra
When our assumptive world shatters, it is completely normal to grieve the loss of the plan itself. Acknowledging that loss is the first step in adapting to your new reality.
As we catch up on our summer experiences, we talk about how grief doesn't just pause when good things happen. Cassandra reflects on a recent family visit filled with happiness, contrasting it with the heavy impact of losses she felt around her.
"I'm very grateful for this podcast because it helped me to show up more authentically for the people that needed me to show up authentically for them." — Cassandra
Joy and grief can, and often do, sit right next to each other. Giving yourself permission to feel both simultaneously without guilt is vital.
In the spirit of season two, we are emphasizing the importance of recognizing the hidden griefs we often overlook or brush past.
"Naming those griefs is a start to feeling better, to healing." — Daiana
You don't have to reserve the word "grief" only for monumental tragedies. Validating your everyday losses gives you the grace to actually process them.
We played a quick game reflecting on our recent personal journeys. I share a few of my own highs and lows, focusing on what it means to truly stay present in the middle of life's chaotic chapters, especially with the passing of my dad.
“Well, the first time is done. That's the first and last time I will ever have to go there for the first time without my dad.” — Daiana
Our candid conversation this week is a reminder that while grief is a permanent resident in our lives, it doesn't cancel out our capacity for deep connection.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. We are so glad you are here.
See you soon,
Daiana and Cassandra
